Whats point in copyright?

Quite a few websites have nothing really all that unique about them and a copyright is a kind of a waste. However, if your design has any unique qualities about it, at all, I think it would be important to protect that from being used by anybody and everybody.

I would hate to design a website, have someone see it and like it, rip 80% of it or more, and turn your design into a template that they present as their own, and sell it over and over. Without a copyright, you can't do anything to stop them.

I think most stuff is copyrighted even if you dont say it is in the US

Yes, according to the US copyright website, anything written or created automatically becomes copyrighted material. The only thing is, you can only enforce the copyright in a court of law if the copyright was registered with their office.

I have heard of something called a "poor man's copyright" where you send a copy of the content that you want copyrighted to yourself in the mail. Supposedly, once the postal service places a postmark on the envelope that postmark will legally "give you a case" against someone if you needed to take that someone to court later. I don't know how true that is but I heard it years ago and haven't had a chance to test it.
