aight man you must be southern... a coke as in a coca-cola product? or coke as in any type of soda? cause you just named a pepsi product... lol
Here in the north we call it soda and mine is definitely plain old classic mountain dew.

Dude it freaked me out the first time I went into an IHOP in georgia when I moved down there. Lady asked me what I wanted to drink, so I said "a coke is fine". "What kind of coke?"... "Classic?"... "We only have pepsi products.".. "You just said what kind of coke do I want?"... "Everything's a coke in the south sweetie."

Down here in Texas we do call it Coke pretty much for everything which is great, I hate the sound of SODA, POP, what ever they call it. I first thought you were talking about the powder Coke but thought second about it,  only kidding

Did you guys hear there makking diet coke with splenda? I'm sure they have normal diet coke still, thats kinda weird.

We say it all by brand names ie Diet Coke, Pepsi, Dr Pepper etc. Maybe it's just upper class rubbish that emobodies the UK...!

The new "Baja Blast" would be considered my favorite "soda." Yes, in Hawaii we called it soda. Where I am at now, Iowa, the natives call it "pop." I have to correct the natives here in Iowa.

It's called by the brand name in Australia too, so not too sure about the upper class theory
I guess we call the general stuff fizzy drink... but here in England it is as has been said, called by its brand name.
