Default Screen Resolution..

I'm curious... what resolution does everybody have their monitors set to? Is it really worth it to build sites to accomodate 800x600 these days? cause that's quite restrictive. I'd much rather build bigger and utilize more space.

a large percentage still use 800x600.

with css though, use precentages and you wont have to worry what size their resolution is...

too much trouble... much easier to pick a width and go with it... save headaches... I think I'll be building for 1024x768 ... upgrade people!!

I still build for 800x600px, but place a background and spacing so it will fill up bigger monitors to some satisfaction, even if not with content.

I normally do too... but this time around I'm movin up a size... I want more space to move... If I get real fiesty maybe I'll build the site to accomodate both... just put a button on there or sumfin to switch back and forth... I dunno.

Can you use Javascript to detect screen resolution. I only ask because of these automated websites that tell you what browser, ISP and resolution everyone use - could you not use that same technology to make an automated decision about what size website your user should view?
