| | AOL, grrrr!
Okay, let me say right up front that I absolutely wouldn't consider AOL as an internet service provider but this little story makes me trust them even less.
I was venturing into one of those stupid, too-good-to-be-true offers that said answer a brief survey and win a huge gift card. There was my first mistake but we won't get into that.
In order to get my million dollar gift card (slight exaggeration), I had to participate in 2 or 3 offers on this page that contained about 10 to choose from. Most of them were free trials of this or that. One of them was a free 30 trial of "AOL music". I thought sure, why not... I like music... as long as i remember to cancel within 30 days, I'm good. Halfway through completing the offer, I discover that I'm not getting music I'm actually getting a new ISP which is not cool especially since I already have a cable connection. So before I give them any credit card info, I run from the site screaming in terror. I never recieved anything from AOL to indicate that I had already gone too far in the sign up process or a confirmation email or anything. As a matter of fact, I don't even have a cute little screen name BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET THAT FAR! After all, they didn't even get a credit card number from me.
A month and a half later, I get something in the mail from AOL saying that they were unable to process my payment. I looked at it and said "DUH! I didn't give you a card number!" and went on with my day.
The day before yesterday, I look at my BUSINESS account (There is no way on planet earth I would have given AOL THAT debit card number) and, behold, there is $47.80 deducted from this account by none other than AOL. Two months worth of AOL service deducted from a card that they could not have possibly recieved permission to use. Needless to say, I called and went off on a poor customer service rep. I will say that she was very understanding and quick to help fix the problem. Of course, who wouldn't be if the company they worked for fraudulently hunted down someone's debit card and started deducting money from it without the person's permission.

WOW, thats terrible.
Did you get any clue about how did they get your Debit Card??
Thats scary. Did you ask your bank and let them know about this and asked them how AOL can your info?
and also try to threaten AOL, but its already solved, so good luck next time you try ads:D

I would avise contacting your credit comapny and notifying them, and help them find where they got your information. Its a serious case, and if the did get it fraudulently, it would be very good if you did contact your provider, but before that, contact AOL and ask to talk to someone who can tell you where they got your information. They may give you a nhumber of someone higher.
btw, did you ever get your million dollars??? hehe

LOL, no the endless loop of garbage I had to go through to get the gift card didn't seem to have an end and I would have been on every spammer's email list on the planet by the time I was done completing the so-called "survey"!

Hi All,
I;m new here, I was browsing the internet for webtools when I came upon your forum, needless to say I started reading some of your post and I had to join especially because of the aol post lmao, everything above is so true. Aol is like the mob once your in only way out is if you die. lol. I have had some dealings with them my gosh, they give you a really hard time to cancel your account, and the cancellation agents could get nasty, had to get a manager to cancel my account.
