Whats your opinion on 3 letter domains? Do you think its worth the money to invest in one?
(I'm taking about 3 letter .com's with not -'s or numbers.)

I think it depends on the domain and the price. However, I don't think there are any left that are actually worthwhile.

Yeah, finding a 3 letter .com would be next to impossible... I'm not sure what the availablity would be like with another extension like .net, but it would still be rare.

I think 3 letter domains are a great investment, they will never lose there alue, and if the value changes, which it probably would, the only place its going is UP!! They will begin to get more and more expensive to buy. If i had some extra money I would invest in 5 or 6, if I had 30,000 + usd

I think because there are only so many combinations if you get one that makes sense it is a really worthy investment. I would if I had the chance.

And apart from sex.com, I don't know any other great 3 letter domains, or at least I've never gone to any.

I think the investment is worth it. Only if I had enough.

As someone who works in advertising I would say it's worth investing in one even if it's like QLZ.com or something. If you can afford to advertise, a three letter domain becomes something you can build a brand on - a clean slate.
QLZ Insurance
QLZ Auto Body
QLZ Midget Porn
QLZ Electronics
QLZ Mortgage
and so on
If you have no money to advertise, you could also just go and see what businesses already have those initials, then offer the business owner to sell the domain to them. Heck, even go into the phone book and find people with those initials. Someone will want it! (And if anyone has MLL, for a reasonable price... )

Heh, 3 letter dot coms are ok, only because they're worth so much.

I dont like 3 letter domains. Very few companies use 3 letter domains, so speculators just bull**** you so they can get their price.
The price went so high because a rich citizen from an oil country has bought most of them all at once offering insane money.
Its a bubble that is not based on real interest

Some companies don't let you have 3 letter domains. I don't think its worth it anyways, unless you have like a big company that is already known with 3 letters... lol FOX, or ABC?

There are no three letter .com's available, other than for purchase. They are in the 3-4 thousand dollar price range. It may or may not be worth it depending on what you need it for

If I could find one that could be branded easily I would pick it up in an instant. I don't understand the price for some of them though - they don't make any sense and they don't have any cool accronyms attached so I don't think they're worth the price.

The 3 letter .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz have been sold out for a couple of years. Two good references for 3 letter/number domains are http://www.3character.com and http://www.avuw.com . The values of 3 letter domains are based on supply and domain. The supply is limited to 17576 domains of each extension (a small percentage of the 50 million registered .com domains) The demand is high as all cultures and people types recognise the value of short names. I know personally that when I see a long domain being advertised for a certain business, I rarely enter it or remember it. I would prefer to search keywords and click on a site then write down some complex website name.
The number of .com domains being registered is growing at over 30% per year at the moment and the growth in 3 letter .com domains seems to be a very similar rate. The future growth in domains is expected to be from the developing nations and non english speaking nations. They all understand the value of short names.
Some people like them and other people don't. I think that in terms of generating traffic, most of them aren't very good, but in terms of being good value for money they are appreciating in value quite quickly and they are becoming more and more of a status symbol for a website as they are associated with a high cost and a high demand.

| I agree - it could be a very good way to stand out as a new business.

I would buy ANY for $4.000 without hesitation....
but what are you guys talking about? LLL.com 's are gone and so do lll.net, lll.org, lll.info, lll.mobi, lll.biz ... 0 left ....
Also there are no CCC (3character .com, .net left.. all gone).
They are a good investment IMHO, they are easily memorable, and it shows credibility. Guess how it is to show on you business card that you own BGD.com or ohioBGDconsulting.com. It shows that you are in there on the long term.. and there will always be need for LLL's.
Currently I am trading LLLL.com 's (4L), and people buy them .. endusers and domainers too. Guess what.. any good letter pronounceable CVCV (consonant vowel consonant vowel) goes in the $x.xxx, and their place is there. Because you can build on it as well.
So if you find a good one, go for it, I see their minimum price going up in the $xx.xxx range in a couple of years (about 2-3 or so)

3 letters that actually mean something are obviously your best choice but given an equal amount of money, I'd rather go for a longer keyword domain.
