| | Changing my Domain
I have a website with over 3 gigs of data - the domain of this site is .net. With some mysterious luck, I was able to purchase the .com domain.
Now, my question is - how can I change the domain in the cPanel? Do I have to create another cPanel account with the .com domain and then transfer all my data. I really don't want to do that! 3 G is a lot and it might take forever to upload.

Are you asking to have two seperate sites?
this site is .com
and
this site is .net
Or do you want to drop the net and have only the com?
I believe that what your host is set up with is what you have paid for, and either you would have to purchase another package, or you can add the .com to your .net account and use a pointer/sub domain. thats what Ive done with mine. I only have one url with my host and two extra seperate sites that I have pointed to.
You have obviously bought your new domain, so I would keep the net and add the com. why not have both for the same price.
that would mean uploading all that, I use filezilla and have dial up so Im a good one for uploading questions..lol.. but filezilla goes really fast for uploading to your server.

Can't you just redirect the site?
cPanel >> Redirect >> "Your redirection" >> Submit >> Voila!

Why don't you ask your previous hosting company.. maybe they can help you.. I agree with you that 3gig will take forever to upload.. even your connection is fast..

I tried! But they're asking for $15 so they can transfer the domain to me. That's just ridiculous. :-(

I'm sure if you contact your host they could possibly change the domain name, if you aren't able to do that, I can give you free hosting on my reseller account! |

Well the problem here is that you do not own the domain name. Your host owns it. You will have to buy it from them or lose it. If you own it, then you can just change the nameservers to another host.

A little off topic but my advice to all members is that, never go with hosting providers for domain registrations as they sometime can be pain and I have even heard stories of hosting companies running away with people's domain names. Always use some great reputed registrar for domain registration.

Just redirect the domain to the proper directory and it should be fine.

Well you MAY be able to change the URL of the website in WHM, not cPanel, which is something your host would have to do if your not a reseller.
It depends on the circumstanses and situation, which I don't really understand fully from this thread.

With cpanel all you do is just change the directory that the domain goes to.
