Do you own your name dot com? I do but technically it isn't my full name I suppose but I mean I never go by anything but Taylor Hewitt anyways so yeah. I'm telling nobody my middle name!

I own .info, .net and .org
.com has been registered for years now and there's no way the guy's giving it up anytime soon. |

Hmm thanks for reminding me I should probably register TaylorHewitt.info since it's not really that expensive just a buck.

Nah, I'd never register my own name. It's not like I have a portfolio or something like that.

But I guess I'd buy my own domain if I become a little famous.

Well if you become famous then legally you can take your name back from somebody else if they register it.

Well I'm not 100% sure. But I'm sure if somebody registered EltonJohn.com and he wanted it he could easily get it without spending a penny. I'm not super familiar with the exact copyright laws regarding names.

Legally you can. But being able to successfully pull it off is a totally different story.
Should it reach dispute resolution, the presentation of any and all relevant facts by all parties involved will eventually determine the outcome.

Yeah there we go. Legally you can but it doesn't mean it's gonna happen for sho.
For instance if somebody had the same name as you I would imagine they have just as much a right to that domain as you do.

On the side, I forgot to mention I registered the domain name-sake of my real name. My cousin teased me for getting "his" domain name first because it so happens we share the exact same first and last names.

This is kind of loserish.
Some people watch the American Idol auditions just to register the names of the standout auditioners...so they can sell the domain in the future. If the domain can be taken legally, why do they even bother?

Very true. But like I said in the other thread you should only make risks if you can handle the worst case scenario consequences.

I wanted to try that out last year but I wasn't able to watch the auditions. I think a lot of people are good at these things, I'll never be able to beat them.

Well thousands of people are on the lookout for those kinds of domains. Not just American Idol or celebrity domains, but technological advances in the future. Meaning they read tech magazines and if they talk about a new technology in the next decade they will reg a domain about it and wait. That's one of the ABSOLUTE smartest things to do domain-wise because those are the types of people who own "WirelessInternet.com". That one definitely would go for quite a few thousand dollars, for sure.
I would do that but I don't know what to read or where to start really. Plus a lot of patience is needed and I definitely don't have much of that unfortunately.
