I heartily disagree with that. But only because I've worked with a domain registrar.
Here are some observations:
1. Higher-priced registrars are able to offer toll-free phone support (especially 24/7) for those who desire such. Let's face it: there are many domain registrants out there who hardly know how these things go, so being able to call the registrar via phone anytime is a valuable thing.
2. Those who charge high are able to offer longer grace periods. You might find some interesting observations if you checked some of the grace periods of some registrars, both high and low priced.
3. Such registrars have more incentive to render support for potentially complex issues, especially if your domain name has been shut down (knock on wood) due to a legal dispute or contract violation.
Of course, one can always firmly belief you're getting scammed, even though you've agreed to a certain price and the registrar has given what was agreed upon. But...that's just an opinion.

Anyway, one registrar I'll probably never purchase from is Go Daddy, mainly because their terms are rather "too strict" for my taste.
