What do you think of .us ?

I want to register a new domain, I found a short and very good one still available but it's a .us.

So what do you think ? short .us or longer .com ?

I got 4 .us domain names. I don't have anything up on them yet to see how they will do. I think they will catch on. I think they are already more popular then what they were. I think if you have a good site up that the .us name won't be a handycap.... but I have no idea how the search engines will view them...... I don't think .net does to bad compared to .com. I've seen .net sites ahead of .com's in the search engines.

it depends on the your targeted visitors or the concept of your site, if your site has concept about US or products and services offered around the US , then it would be best for your site. but if not much better to provide that would exact relevant to your site..cheers

I generally prefer .info's for my needs but I do have one or two .us.. I don't have an aversion to them if they fit. Especially good for GEO domains IMO.

for differences......

.com is the most desired name to have, harder to get, then .net then .org then .us and .info but I think that is changing I have seen some .net sites that were ahead of .com sites on Google searches.

I used to think that .org was just for religious sites but that isn't right either

or else changed and no one sent me a memo....

I think like .us would also show that it is from the US originally? I think some countries do that anyway....

From experience in looking for some domains to buy/sell, .us aren't worth too much. That might change in the future though, who knows...

I finally got something published on 3 of my .US sites to see how they will do, I haven't really started promoting them yet, but I will soon.

Here's how they are doing so far.

Funny Cat ---- has been up for 22 days--- has 31 unique visiters, and 81 visits
Funny Dog---- has been up for 12 days--- has 6 unique and 35 visits
Animal Picture -- has been up for 1 day--- has 5 unique and 8 visits but only 4 of the visits were from yesterday, a few people showed up there before I had anything published this month.

It's too soon to tell how well they will end up doing but for a start I don't think they will do too bad, for Funny Cat 7 different bots have found their way there 22 times. So I don't think the search engine bots are going to have any problem with finding them. 7 of my visitors have come from Google searches and 1 visitor from Yahoo search. So I think eventually they will grow just as well as my .com and .net site names.

A .us domain name should be fine. The only thing you'd need to be concerned about is if this is a commercial or profitable website. If you ever want to sell it once it's popular it can become a pain buy .us sites if the buyer is outside the US. Since you have to live in the US to be a registrant of a .us domain name.

I never thought of that... I'm still so new at just trying to build sites and get them going I never thought about selling them...
