Do you think that shared web hosting providers must increase transfer and space quotas to enormous numbers that no one uses? offering 20 GB - 50 GB transfer per month is reasonable. But claiming you offer anyone 500 GB per month transfer is like offering cruise to the moon.
It is obvious that most web sites can not take advantage of offers like those! So what do you think hosts should do. To offer something that no one will use or to focus on different things like value-added services.

I think web hosts should focus on providing realistic services. Plans that have 500GB transfer are pretty useless because realistically if 1/4 of their customers used it they'd go broke. Even 100GB plans are usually priced below the wholesale price to purchase 100GB of data transfer anyway, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that as it's more realistic, and a much smaller risk of anything going wrong in the business.

From what I've seen people don't seem to be interested in value added services, space seems to sell. But I personally find that if a host doesn't have good value added services, another one will. So I guess if you need specific services, you'll be able to find someone providing them.

I think web hosts should be honest about what they can provide and offer the very best customer support available. As long as the website technical specs can keep up with the kind of traffic it gets, then increased transfer and space quotas should be covered adequately. We recently went with Server Intellect and have been extremely pleased with what they have to offer.

But yes, i'm sure alot of hosts use that tactic to obtain as many customers as possible but sooner or later if it isn't stopped. It's most likely that server will be definetly oversold.
