Lightbulb Benefits of using coldfusion?

I've been looking at some other programming languages and have come across cold fusion. I am curios if anyone is currently using the language for a working website and why.

There really does't seem to be any major benefits over .asp or even .php. I also have been wondering why more websites haven't been using Ruby.

Yes its a good question to ask.. As I am too a programmer and developing my site in Php only because its open source widely available various resources enriched and can extent too much flexible.. and too much popular too. So ruby has many dis advantages in comparison with these languages.. that is y its less popular in website's use.. what do you think about it?

The benefits of using ColdFusion is that it's really easy to learn and is very powerful. I have a number of coldfusion tutorials available on my web-site (with more being written) that range from beginner to advanced. You will quickly see how easy it is to learn.

While the main engine from Adobe is not open source (cheapest license $1,200) one of the biggest competitors Railo has recently been accepted into JBOSS and will be going full open source (free) this year. Railo currently has a couple of pricing categories that range from $0 (community edition) to about $2k (for an enterprise license).

What types of services need to run on a server to enable cfm? I'd like to give it a try and see it work in action. I'm all about making things easier.

Thanks for those useful links as well garyrgilbert!
