Default Where do I start?

Hi everybody,
I am tired of being at the mercy of programmers (sorry, guys). I would love to learn to do things for myself. Where do I start? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Please keep in mind that as of yet, I have ZERO knowlege/skills. Thanks...

This really depends on what you are looking to do. It some cases, it helps to view the code of a GPL script and make some changes to your linking. It will assist in you learning the code and knowing a little bit of how it operates. Also, the way people learn varies. Some by doing, some by reading the manuals, and some by watching someone else.

hmmm. As Luke said, it depends. Do you mean programming as in web design, or programming as applications, etc.?

Google is your friend. There are lots of free learning resources out there. You can also buy books when you start to get into really advanced stuff.

I strongly disagree with that, the best way to learn to code is to take crap and turn it into "SHABAM".

Learn PHP and MySQL, then move into Perl, then Java, then VB.NET, then C++

That's the course I'm to become a professional coder.

I would say, if you want to learn a single language, learn C language. And it's also a good starting point if you want to learn several languages.

Programming Books is one reference essential for me, plus some one line research, try one programming language at a time.

I agree with that C/C++ are both really similar to php, once you pick up C based language you'll learn other languages fairly quickly.
