Unhappy W3.org Compliance

I've been working feverishly running my various websites (including the Lodge) using the validator located at w3.org. I've been validating both the XHTML as well as the CSS (Style Sheet).

After working with the Staff and narrowing down the errors quite a bit, I started looking at other websites and noticed even Yahoo! and Google are not compliant.

How important is this, aside from browser compatibility? It seems as if errors are always going to persist.

I personally think it's more of a status thing. A lot of people like to show off that their websites meet the highest standards (which I admit does look impressive).

As long as your website appears the way you want in major browsers I wouldn't worry about being w3 compliant.

The main purpose of the validator is to reduce the risk of layout issues in differnet browsers.

I try to validate all of my websites, but not always.

The fact that Google and other major websites don't validate is irrelevant, and only shows that don't care enough to ensure it does.

I suggest making your sites 100% valid when possible.

Thanks for the feedback. Opera and IE8 are my next challenge in regards to compatibility. I guess it is never ending!

I really would not worry about the compliance as long as your pages are tested in Internet explorer and firefox. w3 complaince and pagerank are not important in my opinion. Unique content and seo are much more important to me.

Its a straight design noob thing to place images or text that your site validates.

View the site in IE, and FF and if you have a mac browsing audience Safari.

If it looks good its ready to go, if it doesnt its back to coding :D
