For me I would see if it has a PR 3 above, plus factor to that if it has a page rank also in the internal pages. And I won't add my site if that directory appears to be a farm site. Each categories much have a 25 links on it.
I'm submitting my site to free directories (there's a lot out there...). But i check first the status of the directory site... then PR follows but i'm not ignoring PR0 sites as long it is a good one...
Same here I submit only to free directories. I was looking at the PR first then if the site is working well or and exist. (sometimes there are sites that looks fine but originally it redirect to 404) you should be careful of that one.
One of, if not the best is ODP - Open Directory Project. Free directories may require reciprocal links and things of that nature. It's not a bad idea to do this as long as the return on traffic is worth the annoyance.
I always submit my site to free directories that will accept one-way link submission. I will immediately leave the directory that needs reciprocal linking.
I do not care... I just submit it.... submit and submit... But sometimes when I notice that the site look suspicious... I rather stop submitting on it...
Free directories are fine..I'm not particular about PR as long as it works fine. I just make sure that I confirmed my submission there if they send confirmation on my e-mail...
errr, is checking the site necessary? I mean I just grab a list, enter them all, submit my sites if its free and then move to the other one... will that have any bad effect for my site?
