If you want more visitors SEO your site and be unique, not much more then that.

Building backlinks and inbound links help, although they can penalize you depending on how fast you get them.

Directory submission helps, but it doesn't do much when you lose it all due to gaining ranks too fast.

I think the best is forum links and social communities. Those have really worked for me very well.
