| | Has anyone used this search engine?
Any thoughts on www.cuil.com? Quote:
The Internet has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years but search engines have not kept up—until now. Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft.
Rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency.
Then we offer you helpful choices and suggestions until you find the page you want and that you know is out there. We believe that analyzing the Web rather than our users is a more useful approach, so we don’t collect data about you and your habits, lest we are tempted to peek. With Cuil, your search history is always private.
Cuil is an old Irish word for knowledge. For knowledge, ask Cuil.

hahaha...
Cuil sucks.
Very disappointing that they put all this work into publicizing it and getting every blogger talking about it, that they forgot to actually finish their search engine and actually get a decent crawl done.
I just wrote a review on it at The not so cool Cuil | Pliggs
Sad thing is the owners are ex Google employees, I can now see why they are no longer with Google.

I've seen several other searches out there as well. I wasn't aware this one was made by former Google employees. We should compile a list of all the search engines and see if they help at all with SEO traffic.

It is a bit different. The only thing I liked about it was the way that it showed its result. Other than that, no more. I have tried searching for my site using my keywords and none of them exists with in the 2 or 3 result pages.sad. even sent an email (because they had no form) to submit my site. well, maybe in time, it would improve.

^ coz it was just launched last week - July 27.. it's the newest SE to rival Google in terms of size/capacity - they are claiming that Cuil is the biggest SE today... but that's just it.

I hate the way they layout the SERPs, and the results are so unreliable.
If this is Google's biggest rival, Google has nothing to worry about.

I don't like it. A lot of the results I found to be expired or non-existent. Needs work.

some popular sites are not yet indexed making the results unreliable

besides, cuil never give any response on the negative report about them. How can we trust them if they claim that they can be better than Google.

It is not that popular as Google, maybe it has some unique features but it is not that recommendable.

Any new search engine needs time to make them selves a good one..even though google started its not like what it is now...the reason why they have lunch cuil is to get feedback from the users in order to make improvements...there is always a room for improvement...so give cuil a break...with that kind of team for sure they will going to fix all the possible bugs and improve it..though it needs time...:D

what can i say is that whatever this ex-Google employees do to make their "prototype" better than Google, still they fail because Google is really that powerful

It's all right, still needs a lot of work. I could see it as one of the major search engines before 2009 ends. (yahoo, msn, google, cuil).
