Social bookmarking vs Backlinking?

As we all know, backlinking use to be one of the best ways of increasing your website position in Google, But I heard a lot of people talking about social bookmarking as the new big thing.

Has anyone tested this?
Or is backlinking still king?

i have submitted my site in more than 300 bookmarking sites, but only one back link is counted and it's from digg.

try viral SEO on StumbleUpon... you can gather backlinks from it...
But don't forget, social bookmarking is just a part os SEO task, you could disregard or make it as your main task for your site...

i think social bookmarking is one way of building your backlinks....

they say it's important because, there are many quality bookmarking sites where you can put your link on :D

Not all socialbookmarkings are good try the do follow socialbookmarking I am sure you can get traffic and increase your search engine rankings.. This is my best strategy the power of socialbookmarking submission.

Link building shouldn't still be prioritized less even if you get to work on social bookmarking. Social bookmarking can relatively increase your traffic for sure but not really particular with the search engine rankings.
