Default Keyword research

Do you spend a lot of time researching the right keywords for a website? If so, what tools do you use to find the right combination?

I look at the website I want the keywords for, (the content) and other similar websites' keywords. One good way to do this: If I find keyword 'x', I type it in Google/Yahoo/MSN and check all the websites appearing on the first page and pick out the keywords I like.

Question: Is it wrong to steal keywords?

Yes, keywords analysis is very important for me that is why spend hours researching for my keywords. I use different tools so I can have different views on how much a keyword is searched everyday and also check my competitors as well of course.
