what doe CHOMD mean?

I'm trying to add a script to my website, and it tells me to do this!!

CHOMD The Following Files & Folders engine.inc.php 777and backups 777

What does that mean? I don't know what the paragraph below means either.

Now login to your cpanel or whatever hosting control panel you may have and create a mysql database,user, and password. (user must have full permissions)

I hope that someone can help me out here......

What you have to do is go and download an FTP Program like coreftp.com

Then you login using your FTP details and then right click on the files you need to chmod and set it to 777.

For the second part you need to create a database, create a user and then assign the user to the database. I could help you with that but need to know what control panel you have with your host to give you instructions.

What control panel are you using? And what FTP program (if any) are you using?

I am using smartftp as a ftp client.......and I use Vdeck control panel.....if you could help me out, I would appreciate it......do you have yahoo messenger or MSN messenger? That way we can talk easier as you help me out.

I havent used vDeck before but if your willing to trust me enough to get your login details I may be able to find it for you. I do have MSN messenger ill PM it to you if you want.

Yes, CHMOD is the codes that set limits on what can be edited online, either through the hosting control panel or through a CMS or forum admin area.

I believe the CHMOD 777 gives full editing access but I could be wrong.

777 is world,group,user read/write/excecute permission.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the help......arcadepunk, this is for you.....I been busy fighting with this Smartftp program for days trying to figure it out, but for some reason, I can not get it to connect.......And as for u being "trustworthy", well not even a second thought came to mind......I am in pretty good with one of the "Admin" of the forum, "Rooted, Tim" .....he is a good friend of mine, so you better be nice to me....

So if there's anyway you know of that you can help, i'll gladly except your offer.
