Default Web Design Process

What is your web design process?

I normally start with pencil and paper then I move onto framing with HTML and tables. Then I add my graphics, CSS, and then I code the back end.

Heh. I'm with Brandon on this one. However, sometimes I do follow a structure (first, I see how it would look using photoshop, then I start coding it and I might change it a bit while I do the coding).

For me, it depends on if I'm designing a new logo for it or not. In most cases, so far, my clients required a logo so I generally start there. Once there is a logo to work with, I open Fireworks and start experimenting with colors and layout.

I will at least get a header designed and a plan for the navigation graphics before I will move to Dreamweaver and start building the CSS and inserting images into the body of the HTML.

As far as website layouts go, I design the whole webpage in photoshop. I tend to start at the top of the layout and work my way down.

After I design everything, then I slice it up and code it with a text editor.

My design process follows these lines,
1. Contact customer ask for example sites, what colours, logo theme etc..

2. Basic layout, almost like using paint just used for finding coloumns etc, I will change this until the layout fits the clients needs,

3. First design, not an amazing design but too show the client the design at the time,

4. Take client feedback and develop the design to the point where it looks near complete,

5. Show the design and take feedback,

6. Complete the site with this feedback, again it now goes back to the client

7. Extra feedback and changes are made for however long is neccessary

8. Send the design to a coder and imagine what I can do with my new paypal money.

At the place I worked for previously, our process was very similar to Nexolt's. We had good luck limiting the client to a specific number of edits though -- usually 2 or 3 -- and then having them pay for additional edits. We also had them sign-off on the layout comp before we cut it up into HTML which is very important.
