| | Ultimate Question: Dreamweaver v Notepad
Even though we all know notepad is the far superior program, just thought I would post this to get some opinions. . . lol

I personally like hand coding, but for simple websites, Dreameaver sure does do the job, much easier. This is especially so if not only you will be editing the website.
For example, I'm creating a website in dreamweaver currently for my father, so that I can teach him how to go in and edit the pages with his extremely limited internet knowledge.
I used to be totally against it, but now I'm seeing it's potential.

I agree completely, it is much easier to use for designing simple websites or for website based off of graphical templates. (Dreamweaver is much more easily compatible with splicing from Photoshop as well.)

I use NotePad and only NotePad. Tried Macromedia but didn't like it, at all.

A thread from 2005 discussing this topic: http://www.dnlodge.com/web-developme...xt-editor.html
Interesting. Apparently "i dont believe in that"... at least thats what I thought in 2005, and up to a few months ago.

I dont use any programs to code for me, i dont believe in that, I code templates my self using tables.
|
I see your opinion has changed a bit i really don't see what's so bad about taking the easy way out once in a while and using a program like Dreamweaver.

Haha, just got into the whole Web 2.0 trend myself. My first endeavor into it can be seen below at my new website "rslegit.com". I sell gold/items for an online game to kids, so I thought it would need to look cool to get any sales. ( Would have a link to DNLodge if the site was not a PR 0 )

I would prefer to hand-code all of my sites, but if I am in a rush and need a quick fix, I will use dreamweaver.

| I think that is the general consensus here, with a few extremists on both sides. Most of us seem to use Dreamweaver for small, easy jobs or if we are feeling lazy.

Yeah, Dreamweaver is a really intuitive program that is great for beginners. You should try to learn html though, it's still really useful in dreamweaver and you can't really call yourself a coder without at least knowing html |

| | Re: Ultimate Question: Dreamweaver v Notepad When I say I have a basic understanding of HTML, I mean basic. Would it not be hard to create a professional looking website with just Notepad?. I'm not sure I would be able to create a whole site with navigation bars & links etc with just Notepad. I feel Dreamweaver, Frontpage, or some editors is good for beginners. Good luck for building your site. |

Personally, I use Dreamweaver to make websites. I only use notepad if I need to modify something.

Make a good use of dreamweaver and later , use notepad for a quick editing.
As far as I think, dreamweaver is also the best tool to learn html.

I use dreamweaver, I personally don't see any advantage that notepad has over dreamweaver, unless it is just an elitists' thing.
