Default web site background color

I started out all my sites with just a plain white background color and heard that a lot of people think that makes it hard to read. So I started changing my background colors.

Is there any back ground color that works best for you? Or do you think it makes any difference?

Well, it still depends on the color combination you got. It is very important to consider those especially if your designing a site. So whether it is a plain white or any color on your background, it will still depends if your text color matches it.... If you're using a darker color for your background, make sure you use lighter color on your text or content, and if you're using a lighter color for your background, use darker color for your content.

Hope it helps..

They are in my sig. The Buckeye tree (BT) one is the last one I changed from white to light green. I know that sounds bad, but I think it looks better then white. I also started a new one just a few days ago called ChestnutTree.net, that I'm doing in yellow.

I always prefer the lightest shade of yellow as I think it's the most reader-friendly of all background colors.

hi,
it totally depends on the colors of your font and color of your graphics. so if you give us the link of your website after looking at your website i can suggest you some background color for that.
but you can use some light colors for the background which do not hurt the readers eyes and you can also use some picture as background

I think a white background is cool. So long as the text is dark it is much easier on the eye. Add plenty of colour with pictures, images etc. and it can look stunning. Otherwise if you are using a dark background, use white text.

I think that there is nothing worng with a white back ground, but it still depends on the theme of your website. I usually use a white back ground, but i sometimes also use a small, very light criss-cross pattern for my sites back ground.

check first the theme of your site because that's the main basis and also consider the resolution of your visitor's monitors. also consider the colors that suits in the eyes not too dark not to bright.

Sometimes background color varies in your site topic...for example (just for my point of view) if your making a web site for business or some kind of things that needed formalities...light color or just plain white background is much effective...something like that...but the most important is the combination of other color in the site like the text etc...must fit to the background...

The background should be attractive with what other color scheme used but still draw the viewers eye’s towards the content, as that’s really whats most important.
