Default Frames

Do any of you build sites using frames any more? Are they becoming obsolete?

Hehe! It's understandable though, Brandon. I believe that most web designers are getting away from frames altogether because of soooo many setbacks they create.

Brandon, I'm sure you've been on a website where the left column stays while the rest of the page scrolls, or on a page where the scroll bar only goes up to just below the header so when you scroll only the bottom of the page moves. That is a website that uses frames.

I just noticed, the other day, that the website for Taco Bell is built using frames. That is what got me thinking about this and asking the question. If you visit most of the pages of that website, other than the first one, you'll see what I'm talking about.

But I think you can have scroll bars on div's and specify a height and its not a fram rooted. Right?

Yea, I believe that is correct and you can also use flash to create a box within the page that scrolls while the rest of the page stays.

I have heard the term 'fake frames' used when talking about a page done in CSS where part of the page is stationary while the remainder of the page scrolled. I think most people that need a page that acts like frames turn to this method these days.

I don't think they'll become obsolete but I sure don't see as many these days.

I don't program in frames. Never seen a reason to with my projects.
