Default Development of Domain Names

I've recently made a decision to develop quite a few of my own domain names. The goal with these names is to get them out of parking and provide information and text ads. The main goal is a steady revenue stream.

My questions are many as I get into this further. Right now I'm looking at having a main site with add-on domains. This to keep them in subfolders of the main directory.
  1. With using Google ads and putting sites as add-on domains so they have their own index file in each folder and operate independently of the main site so I can have one google sitemap xml file. Is this ok?
  2. Next, link exchange. When I have a main site and then add on domains, does that mean the link popularity for the main site is also the link pop for all the sites? Is this acceptable for advertising?
  3. More directly, I was looking at installing a multi-site Drupal installation and use one database for most of the sites and one code of Drupal so logged on users of one site have access to all the sites as a member. Is something that anyone has ever done?
Essentially, I'm trying to build about 200 sites and mini sites for generating revenue from text ads. What is the best practice for doing this? I don't want what's referred to as a link farm but I'd like them all to share similiar features.

Anyone have any opinions on the best way to go about setting this up correctly and safely so I'm not in violation of Google terms or Overture?

Thanks for your assistance.

I thought this would have been a pretty good discussion thread in a webmaster forum.

Anyone care to offer their opinion or experience with developing names like this?

Explain what a Drupal installation is, if you will. I'm not familar with that.

I do know that mini-sites used for the purpose of generating PPC revenue are becoming quite popular and are usually not a big problem if done correctly.

I read this before and figured I should leave it to those who have a bit more experience with this than I do. I might not be the best to offer advice considering Adsense is no longer an option for me. I'm sure there are plenty around that can offer some insight though.

Tim,

Thanks for asking. Drupal is similiar to that of Mambo. It's basically a content management system.

Essentially, I want to use the one code for all my sites but set them up in different databases (for security reasons). Drupal makes this possible by having different settings.php files for each site which is named in the drupal root installation folder /sites/example.com.

My goal is to start the process correctly without any violation of Google terms of service. So, essentially I'd have 100 sites all pointing to the directory /sites/ - inside my root directory. All sites would have a separate settings.php file but would use the same codebase but have different content and themes.

My question is, in the case of something like mini-sites, do they all share the same link popularity and alexa rating and page rank? I don't want to be a link farm but I do want to use every advantage available to me.

I hope this is clear enough. You don't have to understand anything about drupal to understand that I'm just going to have my main root site with all my other sites running in different databases but all off the default code.

Thanks for your help in understanding this.

Oh, a similiar question would be.... If I plan to develope several sites, where would I start and what are the best practices? These sites are strictly build upon free content and articles with advertising. The goal is income.
