Unhappy Help With Uploading .ZIP Files To My Server

Hey everyone,

I am having the worst time trying to upload a .zip file to my server......It is making me wanna pull my hair out. :-x

First off, I'm no webmaster.....I've had someone do "the big things" for my site for almost a year, but he's gotten really busy latley, and I would like to take on some of the responsabilities myself. Here's the deal!!

I've got resale rights to many products and softwares, and when I downloaded the files from other sites, they ALWAYS came in a .ZIP file.....I would click on the .zip file and extract the files within.....

Now I want to use some of these resale rights products as an incentive to sign up for my newsletter.

I am using the Vdeck control panel, and everytime I try to upload the file, I get this message "Use FTP client when uploading files over 2.0 MB.......well for starters, I dont have a ftp client or at least I dont think I do, nor do I even know what it is, but I did find something in the file manager part of the control panel that said public_ftp, but it gave me a message saying that I couldn't upload to that directory or something like that. The other thing is that none of my files are even over 2.0 MB.....I think the biggest one is like 760 KB.......

Can someone PLEASE help me with this problem......I have got to get these files uploaded, there are 6 of them........I have no problem with pdf files, those upload fine.

If you can help at all, please let me know ASAP.

Thanks
Lavonda Thigpen

I am not sure,a s your post is not quite clear, about your problem.

To upload larger files there are many things to consider:
1) What is the max limit your host allows
2) If you do via a control panel, what is the max limit it allows (in your case 2 MB)
3) Use FTP client like Filezilla or something to upload files.

Now, you can extract files in a folder and then upload the files. If those files are some packages then i wonder, you might have to do some installation process or doing some settings in the config (might be not sure) as the package allows before you can use those scripts.

But, from your post it seems, the only problem you have is uploading file.

Try FileZilla, its free.

Thanks for your help......I know I wasnt clear, but you understood more than you think.......

Are you saying that I can create a file in public_html such as /newsletter then add each file for that program to the newsletter file instead of trying to upload the entire file all at once?

Sure you can. But, even if you upload all files at once(via FTP) you shouldn't have any problems.

The problem you get with the panel might be because the server does not allow scripting languages (PHP, ASP etc) to upload files more than a certain length. In your case it seems its PHP panel and generally PHP has 2MB file limit.

So, if you use FTP client (and if you have space in your account more than or at least for files) you dont need to upload one by one.

If you wish you can download a free ftp client such as smartftp and upload files in multiple to your server location.
