Default Newbie Needs help!

I need some help developing my site. I know everything that I want to put on it but have no idea where to start??? Should I buy one of those pre-made templets from a hosting site? Or would it be better to create it myself? If so whats the 1st step?

Depends on your level of coding. If you are unsure of the coding, get a template and see how it works and modify it to your needs, if you know some coding start fresh.

Templates tend to be used by too many people and you lose the uniqueness.

Do templets take away from seachability, page rankings, etc?
I want to make a pretty easy site that has catories on the left and a map of the U.S. on the right that you can click on your location and it will take you to that cities page. Sort of like www.redfin.com. What do you think?
