Default vBulletin License

I have an SMF forum and I'm satisfied with it.

However, I'm very curious why a lot of people pay for VB License. Is it really worth it?

VB has a lot of cooler skins though. DNLodge's theme is really good. I'm quite envious!

Check out Vanilla - Free, Open-Source Forum Software

Vastly superior code wise than anything currently available! Lightning fast fully extendable standards compliant code.

Next best bet is definitely SMF. It is much faster than Vb or invision power board. SMF is a bit bloated though.

Nigel

Just take a look at DN Lodge and a few other webmaster forums powered by vBulletin.

Why don't you go for something which costs when another is equivalent to it for free.

Use SMF or PhpBB

You get far better support, it's much more expandable as your forum grows, has many available plugins available for free at vbulletin.org, and simply put, it's the industry standard. Also, Security. vBulletin has an update at *least* once a month, if not every 2 weeks or so. It's the most secure system available (although this could be argued. People think less popular software is more secure, simply because it's less popular and no one has tried to hack it).

vBulletin is the forum of choice for most. Once you have the money, buy it. You won't regret.

I don't have a licenses yet anyways but from what I have seen of vbulletin I think it is. But for a free forum smf is pretty nice.

I will agree with this, for a forum to grow you need Vbulletin, As it can match the needs as a forum grows and what it offers cannot be matched by anything else
